Earthle Earthing Alligator Clip
Connecting, using and washing. Sorted in a couple of minutes.
The alligator clip uses your heating system as an earth point. Radiators and their metal pipes are earthed through the installation, so you need no socket. Below you will find how to fit it and connect it.
Connected in four steps
-
Take the clip, the cable, the hose clamp and the cable tie out of the packaging.
-
Find a patch of bare metal. Paint and powder coating insulate, so the clip has to touch bare metal: a union nut, a coupling or an unpainted length of pipe. If everything is painted, carefully scrape a small patch clear on the back of the pipe. That stays out of sight.
-
Fix the clip in place. There are three ways to do it and all three work equally well; pick whatever suits your radiator.

Directly on the hose clamp
Clamped underneath
With the cable tie -
Click the other end of the cable onto your sheet, mat or cover. You will feel it lock into place.
Thirty to forty minutes a day with your earthing product is enough. One night of sleep goes well past that, and more does no harm.
Good to know
Why this works. The metal pipes of your heating run through the boiler to your home's earth connection. That is the same earth an earthed socket ends up in; here you simply reach it directly.
Not sure the connection is good? Measure with a multimeter between the clip and the earth contact of a socket. A low resistance means you are right. If you find nothing, try another piece of bare metal: plastic pipes do not conduct.
An earth point outside works too. If there is soil below your window, or you have a garden, the earthing rod is the alternative. It comes with fifteen metres of cable, so you can lower it from an upper floor as well. A container of soil on your balcony does not work: it sits apart from the earth. Both ways are explained in earthing without an earthed socket.
Two products on one clip. With the splitter you connect two at once.
