The blanket does not have to stay on your mattress. It comes along to the sofa, over your legs while you read, or into a suitcase. Anywhere there is an earthed socket, you can plug it in.
For anyone who would rather change nothing about their bed at night, this is the way to still make contact during the day.
The underside is cotton with the silver thread woven into it; that is the side you put against your skin. The top side is soft polyester and takes no part in the grounding. The less fabric in between, the better it works: bare arms or legs on the blanket do more than a blanket over your clothes.
The label says 2 percent silver thread, less than the 5 percent in the sheets. That is because it is calculated across the whole blanket, polyester included. Work it back to the cotton side and you get a good 6 percent, so slightly more than in a sheet.

What researchers have measured
Without grounding, a small alternating voltage from the mains sits on your skin. It drops away the moment the grounding makes contact. Researchers also looked at cortisol and at red blood cells; you will find that in the article.
Cotton with silver thread
Unlike the sheet, only one side of the blanket conducts. That is the cotton underside, with the silver thread woven into it. Put that side towards you; if you can see the check pattern, you have it the right way round.
68.5% polyester
The top side takes no part in the grounding. It is soft and warm, which is why the blanket also works as an ordinary throw on the sofa without anyone noticing what it is.
4.6 m cable
On the sofa, over your legs while reading, or packed in a suitcase. Anywhere there is an earthed socket you can plug it in. Bare arms or legs work better than over your clothes.
The earth pin of your socket
The plug takes only the earth. That is the wire running from your house down to the earth rod in the ground. The socket does not even have to be switched on.
No mains voltage
The two holes the current normally comes out of are left untouched. There is no connection, so no current can run through your sheet or your mat.
100 kilo-ohm, you can measure it
In case a socket is ever wired wrongly, there is a resistor between the earth and you. Earthing works by equalising voltage, and that takes almost no current, so the resistor is not in the way. You can check it yourself with a multimeter.

You are not connecting anything to the power. The cable goes only to the earth contact of a grounded outlet.

The cable goes only to the earth connection of the outlet, never to the live wire. The plug also contains a 100k ohm resistor, so no current can ever run through the product.
No grounded outlet in the room? Then clamp the cable onto a radiator pipe, or push the earthing pin into the ground outside.

Most asked questions
The side with the silver thread. You recognise it by the fine check pattern in the fabric. The other side makes no contact.
You can, but for the night a sheet, fitted sheet or sleeping mat is more practical: those stay in place. The blanket is mainly meant for daytime.
At 40 degrees, and with stains an occasional wash at 60 is fine. No bleach and no fabric softener: they settle on the silver thread and make it less conductive.
The earthing cable with plug is in the packaging. It goes into an earthed socket; only the earth contact is used, never the live wire. The plug contains a 100k ohm resistor.
Then there are three ways. You push the earthing pin into the ground outside, with fifteen metres of cable running indoors. You clamp the alligator clip onto a bare radiator pipe or radiator. If the outlet is in another room, the fifteen metre extension cable bridges that. You will find all three under accessories.
That differs from person to person. One person notices it the first night, another notices little or nothing. That does not mean nothing is happening: it is comparable to walking barefoot on grass, where you do not always feel anything either. You can read more about that in what you can feel and expect.

Direct skin contact works best. A thin sheet in between is fine, but the more fabric there is in between, the less contact you make.
