Earthle Earthing Yoga Mat

Connecting, using and washing. Sorted in a couple of minutes.

Earthle earthing yoga mat with carry bag, 183 x 61 cm

The yoga mat earths you while you stand, sit or lie on it. Indoors through a socket, outdoors through the earthing pin. Below you will find how to connect it, how to clean it, and what to do if you have no earthed socket.

Connected in four steps

  1. Take the mat out of the packaging. The earthing cable with plug and the carry bag are included.

  2. Roll the mat out and click the earthing cable onto the press stud. You will feel it lock into place.

  3. Put the plug into an earthed socket. Only the earth contact is used, never the live wire. This works on earthed sockets across Europe.

The plug goes into an earthed socket
  4. Stand or lie on it with bare skin. Hands and feet make the contact, so socks and gloves break it.

Practising on the earthing yoga mat

Thirty to forty minutes a day is enough. One session goes well past that, and more does no harm.

Good to know

Outdoors you need no socket. With the earthing pin you push the earth point straight into the ground, in the garden or in a balcony planter with soil. The mat travels in the carry bag included: outside, to the gym or on a trip.

Not just for yoga. Meditation, stretching, floor strength work or simply lying down for a quarter of an hour work just as well. It is about the skin contact, not about what you do.

Building up slowly is fine. If you are sensitive, you may feel a light tingling in your hands or feet the first few times. Start with half an hour and build it up. There is more about this in what you can feel and expect and in earthing for beginners.

Cleaning

The mat is 100% vegan faux leather and cannot go in the washing machine. Clean it with a mild, natural soap well diluted with water. Wipe the mat with a damp cloth or a soft sponge.

Use no scouring agent and no aggressive cleaner. Those attack the top layer, and it is that layer which conducts.

No earthed socket?

An earthed socket has metal pins at the top and bottom as well as the two holes. If you cannot see those, the socket is not earthed.

If there is none in the house, there are two other ways. With the earthing pin you push the earth point into the ground outside and bring it in on fifteen metres of cable. With the alligator clip you clamp it onto an unpainted heating pipe or radiator. Both are explained in earthing without an earthed socket.

Why there is a resistor in the plug

Inside the plug sits a 100,000 ohm resistor, between the earth contact of the socket and your product. It is there in case a socket was ever wired incorrectly.

Earthing works by equalising voltage, and that takes almost no current. A hundred thousand ohms does not get in the way of that: it conducts more than well enough. The resistor only limits what could flow in the worst case.

The live wire of the socket is never used. So no current can run through your product.

Check it yourself with a multimeter

If you want to be sure the connection is sound, you can measure it. Take the plug out of the socket first: you are measuring the product itself, not the mains.

  1. Set the multimeter to resistance, 200 kΩ range.
  2. Hold one probe on the conductive surface of your product, or on the press stud where the cable clicks on.
  3. Hold the other probe on the round earth pin of the plug.

You should read around 100 kΩ. That is the built-in resistor, and it means the whole chain is unbroken.

If it reads infinite or OL, a connection is missing somewhere: check that the cable is properly clicked on. If it reads close to zero, the resistor is missing, and we would like to hear about that.
